Video of Captured American Journalist Austin Tice- Alive BUT in Torment

Tice is blindfolded and is apparently being forced to recite the Muslim declaration of faith, or shahada, but he switches to English and says, “oh Jesus, oh Jesus” He speaks in an exhausted voice, and is in the custody of armed men. This American freelance journalist has been missing in Syria since mid-August

The video, which surfaced on the internet on Sept 26, 2012, is the first evidence of Austin Tice’s condition since he disappeared in mid-August.  Tice is a 31-year-old former Marine, who had been reporting on Syria’s civil war for The Washington Post, McClatchy Newspapers and others.

The Tice family confirmed that this is their son appearing in the video.

The video shows a group of captors dressed like Islamic extremists shouting “Allahu Akbar” over and over, but the clip reportedly contains a number of discrepancies making many question who, exactly, is holding Tice.

There have been reports from the Czech government; which represents American interests in Syria, indicating information that Tice was in Syrian government custody, not the custody of rebel extremists. The production quality of the video, the dress of the captors, and the way the video was released to the public apparently do not fit the profile of Jabhat al-Nusra, which has been blamed for this kidnapping.
